The LA Times (like any mainstream media outlets) calls these killings "officer involved."   "Officer involved killing" really means a cop shot, beat, or in some other way, murdered someone. The accompanying articles from the LA Times, as well as the coroner's statements, must be read with the knowledge that police, media, and coroners all tell a story to defend the state murder.
