a partial POLICE STATE UPDATE
The Police state has leapt forward in the last year on every level. At the federal level we now have unmanned drones flying over our cities and states courtesy of the CIA. http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/2012/0616/Drones-over-America.-Are-they-spying-on-you
We have the codification in law of indefinite detention without trial. When the current president signed the NDAA National Defense Authorization Act he signed a law that would allow for the arrest and indefinite detention of citizens without trial. http://www.aclu.org/blog/tag/ndaa
The government had been doing this to the undocumented for years in detention centers run by ICE in the U.S. and by the CIA and Military abroad. http://www.godlikeproductions.com/forum1/message1620097/pg1
We have the Justice department conspiring with local government to deprive patients of their life saving medicine. The Hummingbird dispensary was driven out of business and the city still will not permit others to fill the need for cannabis based treatments in the community.
The local government has gone to the extreme of further criminalizing sleep in the summer of 2012, making it a misdemeanor to sleep outside in the city.
They were following in the footsteps of the county board of supervisors that had used a phony emergency to outlaw dissent at the courthouse.
The county action was a reaction to their inability to respond to the issues exposed by Occupy Eureka. The District Attorney and other county government conspired to create a climate of fear about the protest and then used violent repression to remove the people temporarily from in front of the courthouse. http://www.times-standard.com/localnews/ci_20271861/humboldt-supervisors-enact-urgency-ordinance-protest-hours-limited?source=pkg
The county refusal to address the problems that the Occupy Movement planted on their doorstep is why the police state thrives. http://www.humboldt.edu/ccrp/total-population-below-poverty-level-redwood-coast-region
In what might be the most egregious affront the City of Eureka has hired Murl Harpham to be the police chief. The hiring is illegal. He is over 65 and has worked for EPD for more than 25 years. Both require his mandatory retirement. He is also When a local activist came to the council meeting to bring this criminal act by the city to the attention of the public she was censored on the public access broadcast and the city website.

A Miami man whose beating at the hands of police was captured on cell phone video has been charged with resisting arrest without violence, a charge his lawyer says came from nothing more than the man's attempts to cover his head from the blows.

Recently released footage from a police cruiser's dashboard camera shows the events leading up to the fatal shooting of a partially deaf man by a Seattle police officer.
John T. Williams, a Native American wood carver who was partially deaf, was killed on August 30th after walking past Officer Ian Birk, 27, on the street with a knife in his hand.
Jasiri X tells the story of Jordan Miles, the 18 year old honor student who was brutally beaten by 3 undercover Pittsburgh Police officers while walking to his grandmother's house. "Jordan Miles" was mixed by Diezel and directed by Paradise Gray.
Call Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala at 412.350.4400 and demand he file charges against the 3 police officers who brutally beat Jordan Miles

IT’S true! According to the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting statistics, between January 2010 and September 2010, 31 kops per 100,000 committed homicide and 73 committed sexual assault. In comparison to 100,000 of the general population (this includes blacks, whites, Mexicans, gang members etc) only 5 citizens committed homicide and 29 committed sexual assaults.
If you have a choice to mingle with a crowd of 100,000 kops or 100,000 citizens, it’s more dangerous to hang out with the police.
I’m still amazed at the number of Americans (mostly the older) who still trust persons wearing a uniform of authority. The older demographic was brainwashed so well they do whatever their preachers, police officers, politicians or judges tell them to do. It’s this “authority worshiping” and blind obedience that led America to its current police state that houses 25% of the world’s prisoners but contains only 5% of the world’s population. Our parents and grandparents were duped into giving away our freedoms for a pretended security.
In the best-selling Steig Larsson trilogy, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest, the heroine, Lisbeth Salander, a hardwired, brilliant young computer genius is shot and presumed to be dead, but is actually buried alive by the antagonist. He is a prototype of the cruel, greedy, misogynistic, exploiter. She claws herself out of her premature grave and, indomitable and focused, defeats him. Finally by the end of volume three she has triumphed—using her own brains and, relying on her friends and comrades—over the entire corrupt corporate, governmental, military power structure that had been trying to oppress and suppress her, her whole life.

Bradley Manning is the U.S. soldier now in a US military prison in Kuwait who has been arrested and charged with two violations for releasing classified information (the Wikileaks "Collateral Murder" video) and facing 54 years in prison. He is being held in isolation from the outside world - with no contact with his civilian attorneys working to defend him.
If the allegations are true, Bradley Manning is a hero for bringing to light the realities of the crimes being committed in the U.S. occupation.
We call for his immediate release and that his attorneys be allowed to talk to him.
In response to a flood of Facebook and YouTube videos that depict police abuse, a new trend in law enforcement is gaining popularity. In at least three states, it is now illegal to record any on-duty police officer.
Even if the encounter involves you and may be necessary to your defense, and even if the recording is on a public street where no expectation of privacy exists.
A video showing a King County Sheriff's deputy pummeling a 15-year-old girl in a holding cell was released Friday over the strenuous objections of the officer's attorney.
We need some Safe Ground in Eureka.
