ICE

a partial POLICE STATE UPDATE & VIDEO recommendations (pg9 Days of Action 2012 booklet)

a partial POLICE STATE UPDATE

The Police state has leapt forward in the last year on every level. At the federal level we now have unmanned drones flying over our cities and states courtesy of the CIA. http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/2012/0616/Drones-over-America.-Are-they-spying-on-you

We have the codification in law of indefinite detention without trial. When the current president signed the NDAA National Defense Authorization Act he signed a law that would allow for the arrest and indefinite detention of citizens without trial.   http://www.aclu.org/blog/tag/ndaa

The government had been doing this to the undocumented for years in detention centers run by ICE in the U.S. and by the CIA and Military abroad. http://www.godlikeproductions.com/forum1/message1620097/pg1

We have the Justice department conspiring with local government to deprive patients of their life saving medicine. The Hummingbird dispensary was driven out of business and the city still will not permit others to fill the need for cannabis based treatments in the community.

The local government has gone to the extreme of further criminalizing sleep in the summer of 2012, making it a misdemeanor to sleep outside in the city.

They were following in the footsteps of the county board of supervisors that had used a phony emergency to outlaw dissent at the courthouse.

The county action was a reaction to their inability to respond to the issues exposed by Occupy Eureka. The District Attorney and other county government conspired to create a climate of fear about the protest and then used violent repression to remove the people temporarily from in front of the courthouse. http://www.times-standard.com/localnews/ci_20271861/humboldt-supervisors-enact-urgency-ordinance-protest-hours-limited?source=pkg

The county refusal to address the problems that the Occupy Movement planted on their doorstep is why the police state thrives. http://www.humboldt.edu/ccrp/total-population-below-poverty-level-redwood-coast-region

In what might be the most egregious affront the City of Eureka has hired Murl Harpham to be the police chief. The hiring is illegal. He is over 65 and has worked for EPD for more than 25 years. Both require his mandatory retirement. He is also When a local activist came to the council meeting to bring this criminal act by the city to the attention of the public she was censored on the public access broadcast and the city website.

California’s TRUST ACT

California’s Trust Act

June 21, 2012   A bill moving through the California Legislature, aptly named the Trust Act, seeks to counter the damage done to community policing and public safety by the Obama administration’s Secure Communities program. The program conducts mandatory immigration checks of everyone booked into local jails and has led to the deportations of many thousands of people with no criminal records, while impeding law enforcement.

POLICE STATE And Yet Another Reason to SAVE RICHARDSON GROVE

You may ask, "What does saving the grove have to do with the police state?"....well....lets start from the beginning... The Interstate Highways were initially implemented by Eisenhower. How did he come up with the idea of these interstate highways? He got his grandiose plan from an army convoy he participated in, and from inspirations he got from Germany's autobahn, which he got to see because he was in the military during WWII. The history of the highways are rooted in militarization. Eisenhower's plan for the highways was even named "The National Defense Highway", this system was designed to move military equipment and personnel with greater efficiency and create a broader reach for the military.

Humboldt County Adopts Racist "Secure Communities Program"- SECRETLY

Humboldt County, on August 10, 2010, signed onto the Secure Communities Program [S-Comm] with ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement], an agency of the Department of Homeland Security.  The public had no say in the decision to adopt the invasive, unjust, and racist program for Humboldt County; the Board of Supervisors has not elicited public opinion about adopting this program, nor has it done anything to inform the public about it.

What is the "Secure Communities" Program?  If you are booked into jail, your fingerprints are taken and forwarded to ICE. The fingerprints are crosschecked with immigration and FBI databases. ICE evaluates each fingerprint scan to see what enforcement action, if any, will be taken against you. Enforcement actions can include arrest by ICE, transfer to ICE custody and/or initiation of removal proceedings (AKA deportation).

What is "Secure Communities"? "Secure Communities” is a national immigration program that targets noncitizens who are arrested by the police. It is one of the fastest growing immigration enforcement programs in the country.

How does Secure Communities work? If you are booked into the jail, your fingerprints are taken and forwarded to ICE.

Local officials are awaiting a response to San Francisco Sheriff Michael Hennessey's letter yesterday, which once again asked federal immigration officials to allow San Francisco to opt out of the fingerprint ID program that targets illegal immigrants booked into jail.

HAPPY MAY DAY! - from Critical Resisance, Strategy & Struggle to ABOLISH the Prison Industrial Complex

Dear Friends,

Happy May Day!

Today all over the world people are coming together to demonstrate the power of political and economic solidarity; to challenge anti-immigrant racism; to celebrate spring and rebirth; and to affirm our capacity to build a society founded on interdependence.

We know that in the United States, this "other labor day" isn't officially recognized or celebrated in every community.  Reclaiming May Day is an important tactic for building alliances with communities worldwide.

Important Supreme Court Ruling for Undocumented Workers

Supreme Court Limits Identity Theft Law

The Supreme Court has ruled undocumented workers using false papers cannot be charged with aggravated identity theft unless they knew their fake IDs belonged to a real person. The Bush administration frequently charged undocumented immigrants with felony identity theft, which carries a two-year sentence. Prosecutors had used the threat of a felony to persuade undocumented workers to plead guilty to lesser charges of document fraud.
