Email August 18, 2010: At 7:45 this morning on the scanner came the announcement that there was shooting in the Cahto Peak area (Laytonville). Then came,"one down, request medical aide". Finally came the news that it was an officer who had done the shooting and the officer was ok. Seems like the cops are slaughtering folks for marijuana , I suppose that is what it is about. They haven't said yet.
The victim must be Latino because they just announced that ICE was on the scene, along with California Highway Patrol....
2nd Fatal Shooting this Year by Mendocino Deputies Using New Marijuana Eradication Techniques
Another man was killed by Law Enforcement officers in in the Small Town of Laytonville in Mendocino County, by law enforcement officers using a “more aggressive approach”, mainly utilizing a “confrontational style raid” in what appears to be the deadliest year yet for Mendocino County marijuana growers.
Five Mendocino County Deputies were put on administrative leave, according to an “initial Sheriff’s reports.”
Sheriff Deputies as part of a team of 60 law enforcement officers were serving a warrant 3 miles west of Laytonville, in the early morning hours of day break in the Bauer Road area of Laytonville, (knowing the area, presumably on private property) when according to initial (white wash) reports, as always the case- “a subject appeared and displayed a rifle” as officers were busy eradicating the marijuana garden.
In later reports the story changed to say the subject ” allegedly “engaged in a gun fight” with a team of officers eradicating a marijuana garden at the site. According to reports it’s unknown whether the man who died had identification, but described him as “approximately in his 20s."
Three deputies on the team shot at the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile another team of Marijuana Eradicators (Clad in Camo, and armed with fully-automatic weapons) entered another marijuana garden (presumably on private property), where, according to official reports (which are usually white washed), ” law enforcement officers entered another marijuana garden and encountered four subjects with guns. The subjects fired on officers and the officers returned fire. The subjects ran away and their condition is "unknown”, according to the release.
Mendocino Sheriff Tom Allman didn’t release the names of the officers involved and according to the MCSO, no officers were injured, in what appears to be a very violent and aggressive last campaign by Northern California Law Enforcement, to eradicate the last Illegal Marijuana Gardens before California voters pass Prop 19.
The Mendocino County District Attorney’s Office and the State Department of Justice will lead another (white wash) investigation. The MCSO press release said names of the officers involved would not be released today, and as with the name of the Officer who killed Angel Farias Hernandez, the 24 year old kid and father of two, in the Mendocino National Forest, three weeks back, we doubt the names will be released till the end of harvest.
