HELP SEND FAMILIES OF THOSE KILLED BY POLICE TO THE TRIAL OF THE COP WHO KILLED OSCAR GRANT

Juanita Young is the mother of Malcolm Ferguson (killed by NYPD’s Street
Crimes Unit, cop Louis Rivera in the Bronx in 2000)

Nicholas Heyward, Sr. is the father of Nicholas Heyward, Jr. (killed by NYC housing cop Brian George in Brooklyn in 1995)

Juanita Young and Nicholas Heyward, Sr. have been powerful voices in the movement against police brutality. Through their own experiences, both of these activist parents have also brought strength to many others who suffer and/or have lost their loved ones to police violence.

Juanita just returned from Detroit, where she was giving support to the family of Aiyana Jones, the seven-year old who was shot and killed sleeping in her bed by Detroit police raiding her family's home. She and Nicholas plan to fly out to Los Angeles to support Oscar Grant's family and the people of LA when the trial for Grant's killer begins again in June. The trial of Johannes Mehserle, the BART officer who shot Oscar Grant in the back in front of hundreds of people on New Years in 2009, is the first in California history where a cop is facing a murder charge for killing someone in the line of duty.

Help get Nicholas and Juanita and possibly other Parents Against Police
Brutality to LA to make a powerful statement that there are those all around the nation who will not tolerate police murder anywhere. We are trying to raise $1000 and have received pledges amounting to $300 so far.
Any amount will help toward airfare- even if you cannot donate consider taking up a collection in your school, workplace, and/or
neighborhood. Please donate or pledge to donate by June 7th, when we plan to hold a send-off party at Project Reach (6:30pm at 39 Eldridge Street, 4th Floor, Manhattan)
Note from Redwood Curtain CopWatch: Anytime that you can send money for Juanita, Nicholas, or other parents to attend the trial would be helpful. Call Juanita at the number below .

Tax-deductible checks should be written out to:

413 Baltic Street, Suite 1A
