National Statement from October 22 Coalition on Arizona SB 1070

Stop Attacks on Immigrants!

The October 22nd Coalition to Stop Police Brutality, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation condemns the new Arizona immigration law and all other laws and policies in place or in the works throughout the nation that criminalizes immigrants and many people of color.   SB 1070 promotes racial profiling and expands the criminalization of people based on how they look, what they wear,  their skin color, language, and/or nationality.  This law doesn't just give police the right to stop anyone they think looks "suspiciously illegal," it makes it mandatory for police to do so.

Can we forget that in Hitler's Third Reich, they didn't begin with the concentration camps, but first made all Jews wear yellow stars?  Based on October 22 Coalition's Stolen Lives Project's documentation of the number of people killed by law enforcement nationwide, it is clear that an increase in the number of people stopped by police also results in an increase in the number of people killed by police.   We refuse to accept a legal guarantee of more brutality, more detentions, more stolen lives at the hands of law enforcement.

STOP POLICE BRUTALITY, REPRESSION AND THE CRIMINALIZATION OF A GENERATION! NO MORE STOLEN LIVES!
