A Eureka man died Wednesday night after being struck by a car near the intersection of Fifth and M streets.
Omar Ben-Ieasu, 38, was struck just before 8:30 p.m., Eureka police said.
According to Humboldt County Deputy Coroner Roy Horton, the victim died of head injuries.
Ben-Ieasu had left the motel where he and his wife were staying to go to a nearby market when the accident happened, Horton said.
The name of the driver is being withheld pending further investigation and he showed no signs of intoxication, Eureka police said. The results of blood-alcohol test on the victim has not yet been received, according to EPD Senior Traffic Officer Gary Whitmer.
Eureka police are asking anyone who witnessed the accident to call Officer Cory Crnich at 441-4060.
CW comment: Note that the driver who just KILLED someone was not tested for drugs or alcohol, and walked away. However, the man who was killed was tested. Perhaps the driver is a friend or relative of the police... Certainly, if the coroner could say that the victim (now dead) had intoxicants in his system, he could tell yet another story of a poor man who 'got himself killed.'
