People all over North America on Monday October 22nd will mobilize Against Police Brutality, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation. This is the 17th year of this October 22nd Day of Action.
Behind the Redwood Curtain, we recognize and continue actions through October 23rd: We remember Christopher Burgess, who was 16 years old when Eureka Police Department officer Terry Liles chased, shot and killed him on October 23, 2006.
Murl Harpham was interim chief when Liles murdered Chris.. Terry Liles killed another teen two months later and has since been made a detective for EPD! Murl Harpham, who was interim chief when both teens were killed and when two other civilians were murdered by EPD is now EPD Chief!
About a year ago, EPD officers Justin Winkle, Adam Laird, and Gary Whitmer were found liable (guilty) of killing Martin Cotton- they brutally beat him and deliberately did not get him medical care, leaving him to die in a jail cell. All three officers are still on the streets as EPD cops! And Harpham says they acted "honorably" when they beat Martin Cotton to death.
There are many reasons for all of us to be outraged and to Act Against Police Brutality, Repression and Criminalization. We need to unite and push for JUSTICE!!
